Columbus Day Weekend is a good weekend to explore natural Delaware. Numerous walking trails are alive with migratory birds this time of year. And the mosquitos are usually gone! We like the trails at Primehook National Wildlife Refuge near Broadkill Beach. Cape Henlopen State Park has many good hiking and biking trails. Letterboxing is a fun "treasure hunt" hike that we like to do as a family; a good letterbox is hidden at Cape Henlopen. Thompsons Island is wild and beautiful, and most people don’t even know it’s there. Stay on the trails, there are Native American burial grounds in the area (near Spring Lake, Rehoboth Beach, DE off Rt. 1).

Oct 17 – 20, 2013
Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival.  Shows on 5 stages plus local restaurants and bars highlight live music this long weekend. This year Sheila E opens the concert series on Thursday Oct 17. Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Sea Witch Festival and Fiddlers Festival. Family Fun! There’s a parade—anyone costumed can walk in the parade or watch. Pony rides on the beach. Tot friendly jack-o-lantern trails. Spookier lantern tours of historical sites. Live music. Fiddlers contest.  Old-fashioned games on the beach. Trick-or-treating at the Rehoboth merchants. Costumed pet parade. This is a FUN weekend! Rehoboth Beach, DE.

November
Nov 1 -3, 2013
Punkin Chunkin. Science and engineering meets tom-foolery as competitors spend thousands of dollars and travel from around the U.S to see who can throw a pumpkin the farthest. And there’s also tailgating. And live bands. The Mythbusters are usually there. Come see for yourself how far a trebuchet or an air cannon can shoot a pumpkin. Proceeds go to charity. Bridgeville, DE.
